Which Internet Browser To Use??

TRY ALL OF THEM...

Today almost all public & work environment computers have all 4 of the major browsers installed on them.  This gives the individual users the choice of which browser they want to use...  Why?? Think of it as having multiple salad dressing choices in your fridge... No particular reason, they all do the same thing, it's just a matter of taste..

You will also find that certain websites you visit "work better" if and when you use the browser that they've built their platform on... so for example if you are visiting any website from Google - Gmail, blogger, YouTube, Google drive, Google maps etc. then you might consider opening your CHROME browser to access those websites.

Computers and other devices with Windows Operating Systems come with Internet Explorer pre-installed, those with Android Operating Systems have Google Chrome installed, and Apple Operating Systems have Safari pre-installed, but you can use any of these browsers on your devices - simply download them: 

• Google Chrome ~ go to www.google.com
• Firefox by Mozilla ~ go to www.mozilla.com
• Safari  by Apple ~ go to http://support.apple.com/downloads/#internet

Internet-How to have multiple tabs open as your home page

CHANGING HOME PAGE "TABS":
Your home page is the first page/website that comes up as soon as you have "activated/opened" your Browser for internet access. 

Today, Browsers use a TAB to indicate the websites you have opened, including your Home Page..And most browsers allow you to have "Multiple Home Page Tabs" open when you initially open your Browser...
 

TO CHANGE HOME PAGE TABS IN (I.E.) INTERNET EXPLORER:

 

·        Open I.E., now open the websites you want to open each time you open I.E.
·        Once they are all open, go to the Menu Bar, Tools, Internet Options
·        You will see your current home page listed in the "display box"
·        Click on the USE CURRENT button
·        Now click APPLY and OK
·        Close your browser and when you reopen it, all tabs will open

 

TO CHANGE HOME PAGE TABS IN GOOGLE CHROME:

 

·        Open Chrome, now open the websites you want to open when you open Chrome
·        Click the wrench icon in the upper right corner and select Options
·        Under the Basics tab on the left, in the On startup box, click the radio button beside Open the following pages
·        Then click the Use current pages button.
·        The list that appears will reflect your new home page(s)

 

TO CHANGE HOME PAGE TABS IN FIREFOX

·        Open Firefox, now open the websites you want to open when you open Firefox

·        Once they are all open, go the Menu Bar, Options (Preferences on a MAC)
·        Under the General Panel - choose "Use Current Pages"
·        Close your browser and when you reopen it, all tabs will open

 TO CHANGE HOME PAGE TABS IN SAFARI

·        First, create a Bookmarks folder

·        Add a bookmark to the folder for every page you want to have open as a tab
·        Now in your general preferences in Safari, go "New windows open with > Choose tabs folder".
·        Browse/Find the bookmarks folder you set up and select it
·        New windows should now open with a tab for each page you've got a bookmark for in that chosen folder.

What is tabbed Internet browsing that I keep hearing about?

Most Internet Browsers use TABS so you can open one connection to he Internet and then open multiple tabs vs. having to open your browser several times…

First of all if you aren’t sure what is an Internet Browser is – a Browser is the free software that allows us to search the Internet – the major ones are: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox – Safari for Apple Computers an Opera for hand held devices… Most of us have 3 or 4 browsers on our computers so different users have their choice of which to use..

Take full advantage of tabbed browsing on your Internet Browsers. While reading any web page if you come across a link you may be interested in open that link in a new tab so it can be viewed later. A new tab can be opened any of these (3) different ways:

• Going to the new tab and left clicking on it to open a new tab & type in the web address



• Hold down the Ctrl key and left click on the web address hyperlink (my favorite way t do it)



• If you have a mouse with a wheel click the link with the middle mouse button

WORKING WITH FAVORITES IN INTERNET EXPLORER:

To organize your list of Favorite Websites:

If you have added to your list and didn’t put addresses into specific topic related folders you can do it anytime to make it easier to find items of similar interest… To do so…

· Left Click on FAVORITES

· Left Click on ORGANIZE and your list will appear

· To move a web address to a folder, left click on the site which highlights it

· Then left click on “MOVE TO FOLDER”; then left click on the FOLDER to put it in, OR

· “CREATE NEW FOLDER” and then repeat the process and “MOVE TO FOLDER”.

· When you are finished left click OK

To alphabetize your Favorite List:

· Left click on FAVORITES on the menu bar (not the toolbar icon)

· Point to and highlight any item on the list – then RIGHT CLICK on that item

· A menu will appear – toward the bottom of the menu – choose “SORT BY NAME”

· Left Click “SORT BY NAME” - all items in your Favorite List are alphabetized

· Addresses not put in specific folders are always at the bottom of the list

What are Internet Cookies?

Cookies are helpful, because they make it easier for us to “move around” when we revisit a website again in the future..

Cookies are pieces of information that actually create a very small “text file” which is placed in a folder on the hard drive of our computer - they are generated/created when we visit a website, by the server that the web page is on. Some people say it’s like “our id card” so that when we go back and revisit a website, it tells that website that we are back – not us really, but that the computer we are using is back visiting the website again!!!

We can delete or change the way in which cookies and/or temporary Internet files are saved by changing our Internet settings. The way we change our Internet settings varies depending on the Internet Browser and level of Browser that we use…Remember there are different browsers (all of which are free) and different members of a family might use different browsers..

Some of us might use Internet Explorer 7, 8 or even 9 (Microsoft products); some might use Chrome by Google; others might use FireFox by Mozilla, while others who have an Apple Mac might use Safari.. and the list goes on…

Internet Explorer 9 does not & will not run on Windows XP

Although you will see lots of advertisements asking you to ‘try out” the new Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 9 (which is still being Beta tested) please know that it does not now – nor will it ever – run on computers with Windows XP – so don’t even try to download it.

While Microsoft has tried to move on from Windows XP many times, millions of users refuse to budge, even with Windows 7 repairing a lot of the damage Vista caused.

XP users are in for a surprise though, when it comes to the next major upgrade they try to apply to their browser. Microsoft has confirmed that Internet Explorer 9 will not work with Windows XP. So all those nice new features such as hardware acceleration will not be available on the old operating system
